A one-day trip to the Ourika Valley is the perfect mountain escape from the Medina. Just a 60 km (1 to 1.5 hour) drive south into the High Atlas foothills, you will experience scenic riverside dining, traditional Berber villages, and hikes to the region's famous cascading waterfalls.
Head south from Marrakech. The drive runs parallel to the Ourika River, offering gorgeous views of red-hillside Berber villages.
Stop briefly on the way to watch local women press argan oil and enjoy a traditional breakfast of mint tea, bread, and honey.
Arrive at the end of the road in Setti Fatma. Hire a local guide to take you on a 45-to-90-minute hike to explore the series of mountain waterfalls. Sturdy shoes are recommended!
Relax at a local restaurant. Many feature tables set directly in the shallow, cool river. Enjoy a traditional Berber tagine while listening to the flowing water.
Head back to Marrakech, arriving at your hotel around 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
